Owners, Peter & Mona Giordano
Pete and Mona opened Pest Control General Store in late 1987, and have been at the same location now for 35 years. They are both State Certified Pest Control Operators, and trained in the pest control field for many years before Pete opened the first Do-It-Yourself Pest Control Store in Florida, 38 years ago.
They call Pete "Dr. Bug" and his idea to sell professional-strength pesticides to homeowners, and provide in-detail instructions for SAFE and effective Pest Control in the home, yard, landscape and on pets was a great decision. Pete even offers training for professional exterminators.
Jordan has been with Pest Control General Store for 8+ years, and though she was hired to help with bookkeeping, her ability to learn complex material (insect ID & biology, Lawn and Ornamental insect ID and plant pathogens, etc) gained her the title of Pest Management Consultant quickly. She knows her stuff, and continually expands her knowledge to stay up-to-date on pesticide use and safety.
Jordan now manages the store completely including, serving our customers, and all tasks involved in running a successful business.
She is not just an employee, she and her girls are family to us.

**Our Recommendations are based on using our products, not over-the-counter products from department or grocery stores**
ROACHES: While there are many types of roaches to deal with in Florida, the most common home-invaders are the American, Australian and the dreaded German Roach. For the first two, we will recommend an odorless product that you only need to treat your home with every 3-4 months, but for the German species, you will need to add an IGR (to sterilize them), and a bait (to place in vulnerable areas that you cannot safely spray an insecticide. You will also have to do a second treatment in 2 weeks and then go to a maintenance schedule.
ANTS: There are thousands of ant species, and in most cases, using any type of spray alone, will cause them to disappear temporarily, but they will return, even more, because you are not killing the queen with an ordinary spray. Step 1 will always be to do a proper ID on the ants. We use a high-power microscope so we are able to see far beyond what the naked eye can see. Different ants feed on different materials, it may be carbohydrate based or protein based, so knowing which bait to use is paramount in truly controlling them. After a period of time (varies by ant) you will follow up with a spray in various locations to keep them from re-infesting your home.

SPIDERS: While all spiders bite, there are only two species that are considered poisonous. The Black or Brown Widow, and the Brown Recluse.
Both of these venomous spiders are no larger that the size of a quarter, including their legs! We have an odorless product that takes care of spiders and a multitude of other insects, that you only have to treat with every 3-4 months. Both of the venemouse spiders can reside inside OR outside of the home, so it's important that you are spraying in the most likely places they will live and breed.
Fleas (& Ticks): It's important to treat inside the home, the yard, and the pet to truly eradicate and control these blood-sucking pests! For Fleas inside, you will be using a combo-product that contains products for the adult fleas PLUS a growth regulator to dry out the larvae so they never mature as adults and restart the breeding process over and over again. For outside, you can use a liquid (every 4-6 weeks) or a granular insecticide (every 2-3 months) You do NOT add growth regulators to outdoor products. Use approved drops or medicines on your pets.

Bed Bugs: have become public enemy number one! These blood-sucking vectors are nocturnal and feed at night. They hide is cracks and crevices (baseboads, behind electric outlets, in the tufts of mattresses) during the day and come out to feed at night. Again, you need to be diligent to do follow-up on this pest for sure. You will be using a liquid, mixed with a growth regulator inside, AND a dust insecticide in the areas that you cannot spray liquids (outlets, under drawes, cracks and crevices. You will also need to purchase mattress covers, to protect your beds. Always be on the lookout for bed bugs! They are hitchhikers and can get on your clothes, in suitcasses and purses, etc. to gain entry into your home.
Rats & Mice: When trying to eradicate rodents in or around your home, the first step is going to be to try and trap them, NOT to put out a bait or poison! The reason for this is simple: if you use a bait or poison as the first step, they may die inside your home behind a wall void and the horrific smell will be in your home unless you cut through the wall, or wait until the body decomposes. Because of this, your step one should always be to TRAP them with either traditional rat/mice traps, have-a-heart traps or glue boards. Once you know that they (are all gone, mamas and babies) then you use bait, in tamper-proof boxes around the OUTSIDE of your home.

Fertilizers: Proper Feeding and Watering are vital to a healthy lawn and landscape. Those 2 things alone, will make the need to have to do weed and disease control less likely, saving you both time and money. The healthier the grass/plant, the less chance there is for bugs and diseases to take over.
In Florida, we do NOT recommend high nitrogen fertilizer, which breeds and spreads fungus disease. We recommend a granular 16-4-8 with slow-release nitrogen which is rich in secondary and micronutrients (zinc, copper, boron, iron, manganese, magnesium, etc.) We custom-blend our formulas this way.
Disease Control: lawn diseases can quickly get out of control and do serious damage. The first thing you need to know is that if you suspect it may be a disease, DO NOT APPLY ANY TYPE OF FERTILIZER to "green it up!" The nitrogen in fertilizer will spread the disease like a wild fire. For best results, bring us a sample of an area of grass that is affected, about the size of a shoebox, that contains damaged AND healthy grass, both, and about 3" of soil. You will be able to put it back and treat it once we've determined which product(s) you need to use. We also need to know the size of the area to be treated (square feet). Insects can cause similar-looking damage so we need to know for sure.

Weed Control: is complicated. Using the wrong weed killer on grass or plants can severely damage or kill them! Bring in samples (see above) of the affected area so we can determine what type of grass it is (to select the correct week killer), if it is a broadleaf or grassy weed, if you need a selective or non-selective product, and then we will know if you need a pre-emergent or post-emergent week killer, and if it should be a granular or liquid treatment. Like we said, it's complicated, and using the wrong herbicide can kill the entire lawn!
Once under control, you will need to follow-up, because fungus disease is like history. It always repeats itself. You never kill it, you arrest the spread of it.
Fire Ants Outdoors: Fire ants have a nasty bite (and sting,) and can send some people into anaphylactic shock if they are allergic to the bites. Often timesyou don't even know you stepped into their mounds (or into their paths), until you're covered by them, and then all at once, they emit a signal to the others, then bite you AND sting you simultaneously. These ants are another species that require you use a BAIT FIRST, and FOLLOW UP with an INSECTICIDE (granular or liquid) to maintain control. Using just an insecticide does not kill the queens and will just move them around and increase their colonies sizes.
*Children and pets are the most vulnerable to this dangerous pest*

Plant Pests: can take out all the foliage on plants if you don't treat them as soon as you discover them. You may notice the damage on TOP of leaves, butyou will find the insects congregating and breeding on the UNDERSIDES of them.
Here it is important to know: the plant species, and the insect species to be surethat the insecticides can be used on them safely without harming or killing the plant. You will ALWAYS have to do a follow-up treatment to be sure you've
knocked them out, and then continue to inspect often and treat as needed.
Plant Diseases: Doctors have to identify the disease before they can prescribe a treatment, and this is also true with plant diseases. As we said previously, it'salways best to bring in samples (leaves, grass, bugs) so we can be absolutely sure that we are recommending the best product for the job at hand.
Some diseases will be noticed on top of the leaves, while others may be
soil-borne and rotting the plant from the roots up. Once we know what type of plant and what pathogen is causing the damage, then we can provide the
products and the in-detail instructions.
We'll Identify the Culprit & Give You Step-By-Step Instructions to Treat the Problem
